Liguria’s excellence showcased at BIT

Milan, February 10th 2026 – The year 2026 marks a historic milestone for the Coppa Milano-Sanremo, Italy’s oldest automobile race, as it celebrates its 120th anniversary. One hundred and twenty years have passed since Camillo Costamagna, then director of the newly founded Gazzetta dello Sport, created the first edition of the competition, designing a route that connected Lombardy, Piedmont and the evocative inland and coastal roads of Liguria.

A deep bond with the territories crossed by the race remains one of the event’s defining features to this day. The 17th edition, scheduled to take place from 26 to 29 March 2026, promises to be unmissable and will celebrate not only the history and sporting prestige of the competition, but also the excellence of the regions involved and a lifestyle-oriented tourism that has always been part of the event’s DNA.

Within this framework, the Coppa Milano-Sanremo will be featured at BIT – Borsa Internazionale del Turismo, currently underway at Fiera Milano Rho. The Liguria Region stand (Hall 11, Stand S01 – S19 – T02 – T20) will provide the ideal stage for the presentation of the renewed 2026 route, which this year will mainly unfold across Ligurian territory, as well as for the promotion of the Region’s landscape and cultural excellence.

The original 310-kilometre route connected Milan to Acqui Terme and then continued on to Sanremo, crossing the picturesque and demanding roads that Milanese travellers used to take to reach the Riviera during their holidays. It was along this winding itinerary that, on 4 April 1906, fourteen daring gentleman drivers gathered in Via Marina in Milan, where the Automobile Club Milano still has its headquarters today, to give life to the first edition of the Coppa Milano-Sanremo.

Today, more than a century later, the roads are paved and the route has naturally expanded to over 700 kilometres of competition. However, on the occasion of this important anniversary, the Coppa Milano-Sanremo will pay tribute to its origins, with crews following the same historic route.

This year’s race will begin with the traditional trials at the Temple of Speed in Monza, concluding the first day with a special Opening Gala Dinner in Milan. On Friday, crews will depart from the Lombardy capital and, after crossing the charming landscapes of Piedmont and stopping in Rapallo, will reach Genoa. The second day of competition will end at the Circolo Artistico Tunnel, a historic Palazzi dei Rolli in Genoa and an extremely exclusive club traditionally open only to the city’s gentlemen. On this exceptional occasion, it will open its doors to the Coppa Milano–Sanremo crews, making the arrival a moment of absolute exclusivity.

On Saturday 28 March, the cars will compete in special trials within the Ligurian capital, then proceed towards the evocative area of Loano, with a prior stop in Acqui Terme. Timed and average speed trials will follow all the way to Sanremo, where the sporting part of the event will conclude and the prize-giving ceremony with Gala Dinner will be held on the rooftop of the famous Casino.

On Sunday, crews will be able to enjoy the atmosphere of the City of Flowers or take part in an exclusive non-competitive “Tribute” event, which will close the manifestation in a spirit of passion and conviviality at the historic Ospedaletti circuit.

This year as well, the Automobile Club Milano will serve as the official patron and operational supporter of the event, and, through its sporting body ACI Sport, will confer competitive value within the framework of the Italian Major Events Championship, reaffirming the event’s status within the panorama of great classic races.

The 17th Historical Re-enactment of the Coppa Milano–Sanremo is promoted by Equipe Grand Prix, Automobile Club Milano, ACI Sport, ACI Storico, Epoca Championship, FIVA, and Milano Corse.
